Your Experience Step by Step
Early Morning Dive Center Check-In
Your day begins in Puerto Ayora with equipment fitting and briefing (usually the evening before or early morning).
After meeting your dive team, you travel to the Itabaca Channel, about 40 minutes from town, where your dive boat awaits.
Moment to feel: Anticipation building — this is not a casual dive.
From Itabaca, a short navigation brings you to the iconic three-rock formation rising from the sea — the unmistakable marker of Gordon Rocks.
Your dive master provides a detailed safety briefing, emphasizing current management and entry procedures.
Highlight: First sight of the legendary crater.
Descend into the volcanic formation where currents bring life from the deep.
Possible encounters include:
- Schools of hammerhead sharks
- Galapagos sharks
- White-tip and blacktip reef sharks
- Eagle rays and mobulas
- Sea turtles
- Barracudas and large pelagic fish
Surface interval with snacks follows.
Highlight: Hammerheads cruising through the blue.
Your second dive explores another section of the crater and surrounding pinnacles.
This is often where divers report their most exciting encounters thanks to the site’s nutrient-rich currents.
Lunch and refreshments are served onboard after the dives.
Highlight: High-energy advanced diving at its best.
After an unforgettable morning underwater, the boat returns to Itabaca and ground transfer brings you back to Puerto Ayora.
You’ll return tired… thrilled… and officially initiated into one of the Galapagos’ most respected dive sites.
