Your Experience Step by Step
Departure from Puerto Ayora
Your adventure begins at the Puerto Ayora dock, where you board a small boat and start exploring the beautiful bay of Santa Cruz.
Within minutes, you’re already surrounded by volcanic coastline and marine wildlife.
Moment to enjoy: The relaxed navigation inside the protected bay.
Your first stop is the famous Shark Channel viewpoint, where — if conditions allow — you may observe white-tip reef sharks resting in the shallow waters below.
Lava herons and coastal birds are often seen along the rocks.
Highlight: One of the easiest shark-spotting locations near Puerto Ayora.
Next, the boat enters the picturesque Canal del Amor, known for its striking turquoise water.
Here you may see:
- Marine iguanas
- Sally Lightfoot crabs
- Blue-footed boobies
- Coastal birdlife
This is one of the most photogenic moments of the tour.
Highlight: Narrow volcanic channel with vibrant wildlife.
Continue to Playa de los Perros, home to some of the largest marine iguanas on Santa Cruz.
The landscape here is rugged, raw, and unmistakably Galapagos.
Highlight: Close encounters with marine iguanas in their natural habitat.
The tour concludes at the spectacular Las Grietas, a natural volcanic fissure filled with crystal-clear brackish water.
Here you’ll enjoy the snorkeling portion of the tour, where you may encounter:
- Tropical fish
- Sea turtles (occasionally)
- Marine life in calm waters
The clarity of the water makes this a guest favorite.
Highlight: Swimming between towering lava walls.
After snorkeling, return by boat to Puerto Ayora, completing a compact but very rewarding Galapagos experience.
You’ll be back at your hotel with time still left in your day.
