Your Experience Step by Step

Morning Transfer & Boat Departure

Your day begins in Puerto Ayora with ground transfer to the Itabaca Channel (about 40 minutes), followed by a short boat ride to Mosquera Islet.

As the low sandy islet appears, your dive team conducts the briefing.

Moment to feel: Calm confidence — this is a very diver-friendly site.

Stop 1 :
First Dive — Sandy Platform & Rays

Descend onto the sandy bottom where currents bring pelagic visitors.

Common encounters include:

  • Eagle rays
  • Golden rays
  • Mobulas
  • Sea turtles
  • Reef fish

The open sandy terrain makes marine life easy to spot.

Highlight: Watching rays glide across the seabed.

Stop 2 :
Garden Eel Fields

One of Mosquera’s signatures is its dense population of endemic garden eels, which extend from the sand in massive colonies.

This creates a surreal underwater landscape rarely seen elsewhere in the Galapagos.

Highlight: Thousands of eels swaying in the current.

Stop 3 :
Second Dive — Shark Opportunity

During the second immersion, divers often encounter:

  • White-tip reef sharks
  • Blacktip reef sharks
  • Hammerhead sharks (occasional)
  • Rays and large schools of fish

Currents can vary from moderate to strong depending on the day.

Highlight: Excellent balance of comfort and pelagic action.

Stop 4 :
Return to Santa Cruz

After your dives, return to Itabaca and transfer back to Puerto Ayora in the afternoon.

You’ll finish the day with something important:

A highly satisfying Galapagos dive…
without the stress of the most extreme sites.
