The Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve is one of the most biologically diverse areas on Earth, protecting hundreds of species of birds, mammals, reptiles, and aquatic life within more than 600,000 hectares of tropical rainforest.
This is not just a tour — it is a true Amazon immersion.
- Arrival: Travel from Quito to Lago Agrio via flight (09:20 AM) or a 7-hour overnight bus.
- The Expedition Begins: Ground transfer to "El Puente," followed by a 3-hour motorized canoe trip down the Cuyabeno River. Our Ministry of Environment-certified bilingual guides will introduce you to the local biodiversity.
- Evening: Check-in at the Lodge. After dinner, join a guided night walk to experience the rainforest’s nocturnal magic.
- Morning: Visit the Siona Seoqueya community of Tarapuy. Learn about their culture and join workshops to craft artisanal jewelry, shigras (handbags), and a traditional casabe (cassava bread) demonstration.
- Afternoon: Navigate the Cuyabeno River to spot monkeys, pink river dolphins, and exotic birds in their natural habitat.
- Morning: Motorized canoe trip to the stunning Laguna Grande. Explore the primary forest on foot as our guides explain lake ecosystems and the traditional use of medicinal plants.
- Evening: Enjoy a breathtaking sunset over the Cuyabeno horizon. After dark, we head out for a caiman spotting expedition.
- Morning: Travel downriver to visit a Shaman’s House. Discover ancient healing traditions and the sacred use of medicinal plants passed down through generations.
- Afternoon: After a relaxing lunch, experience the jungle’s serenity on a paddling canoe trip. This silent navigation allows for closer encounters with macaws, parrots, toucans, and vibrant butterflies.
- Evening: Farewell briefing to recap the week's incredible wildlife sightings and experiences.
- Morning: 06:00 AM birdwatching session on the river followed by a final breakfast.
- Departure: Leave the lodge at 09:30 AM. Arrive at Lago Agrio by 4:00 PM for your flight or bus back to Quito.
